We are very proud to announce the list of wonderful schools that will be joining the ABAs this year. For the first time ever we have 21 schools taking part across the Sussex Coast. How cool is that?

Remember to send us your subscription forms ASAP and we’ll send you your welcome pack. Huge thanks to those of you who have already sent these back to us.
But don’t worry! It’s not too late to sign-up, you’ve still got time. We’ve extended the subscriptions acceptance window until Monday 8th October.
Keep watching this space for lots more information – including the launch of the 2013 Long List. Ooh yeah!
Hello! We’re back and ready to rock! Here at ABA HQ we hope you all had wonderful, sun-filled and relaxing summers. *
We are currently accepting and compiling the new long list for the ABAs 2013. Did you or your students read something last year you think should be included? (Publication date: 1st June 2011 to 31st May 2012) Well, all you need to do is send your recommendations via email to APhelan@worthinghigh.net as soon as you can, (and before the end of September) and we’ll add them to our long list. Then we’ll send you the list and it’ll be up to you and your students to pick your top five. (We’ll send you more information on how to choose them nearer the time.)
If you are new to the ABAs or you would like to join us this year, please contact our membership advisor: Rachel.Johnson@shoreham-academy.org for more information.
The very first Amazing Book Awards night was, well, AMAZING!!
Huge thanks to all the students up and down the south coast who took part and voted for their favourite book – we really couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks also to our audience for coming out on the night and supporting us, it was so wonderful to see you all there. We hoped you had as much fun as we did!
To our finalist authors Andrew, Jill, Kevin, Mike and Phil, for writing such wonderful books and giving us the chance to read and enjoy them – thank you!
To Andrew Hammond who, let’s face it, was simply AWESOME, thank you for being such a wonderfully funny and gracious host.
To Susanna Quinn for presenting the awards in such style – thank you!
And so finally, it gives us GREAT pleasure to announce the winners of the 2012 Sussex Coast Schools Amazing Book Awards:
The BRONZE award was presented to Phil Earle for the wonderful Being Billy
The SILVER award was presented to Kevin Brooks for the awesome iBoy
And the GOLD award was presented to Mike Lancaster for the amazing 0.4
It really was a nail biting finish. The votes were so close, and I think we can all agree that all 5 books were simply amazing.
Keep checking the site. We’ll be uploading lots of photos over the next few days, and get
ready for September when we’ll be back and ready and raring for the 2013 ABAs!!!
Come along to Shoreham Academy on the 5th July (doors open at 5.45 pm) to find out if your favourite book has won – and to meet the authors in person!!
Hurrah! It’s World Book Day and we all know what that means….

That’s it. The votes have been collected and counted and the shortlist is complete. …
And the final 5 are …. * cough * …
Ah, no, we’re not going to tell you yet! You’ll have to wait until World Book Day, Thursday March 1st. Sorry!! (Aren’t we meanies?! Tehe!)
A huge thank you for your help choosing the final 5! We hope that you, like us, think they are all amazing.
Remember to LIKE us on facebook! You’ll find a forum on our pages where you can discuss what you’ve read or still reading, and talk to students from other schools about the shortlist.
It’s the 1st February today and do you know what that means?
It means you have just 20 days to make your final decisions and send us your 5 shortlist nominations.
Make sure you’ve sent us your nominations by or before Pancake Day (Feb. 21st) otherwise your votes may not count. After that you will receive your (quite frankly) amazing welcome pack, and all you need to do then is to get reading!
Welcome to the brand new Amazing Book Awards website. We’re just getting started and 2012 will be our very first year. Here are some things you need to know about us:
The Sussex Coast Schools Amazing Book Awards have been created by a group of School Librarians from West Sussex. The awards are aimed at students in Years 9 & 10, but students from most years are welcome to take part. * some texts might be unsuitable for students in year 7 *
We decided to choose British/UK authors whose books were published for the first time in paperback between June 2010 and Jun 2011. We wanted books suitable for 13-15 year olds, nothing too young or old, and nothing too heavy (!) It’s up to you to decide if we’ve made the right choices.
This year we have 20 books on our long-list and you’ve got till 21st Feb (Pancake Day) to pick your favourite 5. Once we’ve received all the nominations from the schools taking part we’ll select the 5 top books and they will become our shortlist.
Then you’ve got until 18th June to read all 5 and vote for your very most favourite. After that you will be invited to a very grand, glittery and (hopefully) star-author-studded award ceremony at the brand new Shoreham Academy on 5th July. We’ll have drinks and nibbles, you’ll have a chance to meet the authors, buy signed copies of their books and see who the winners are.
Here’s what you can do:
Get stuck in!! Read the books!
Tell us what you think!! Review the books! – send your reviews to us, or post them on this website!
Missed out this year? – if your school hasn’t signed up this year you can soon for next year.
